Siapo Patterns-Samoan Language Week

Talofa lava blogging world,

This week is Samoan Language Week. Our class has been looking at siapo (also known as tapa) and how they are created.

Did you know that they use tree to make the siapo and they flatten it out to make it wide and long also the things that they use to create it.

We then had a go at creating a siapo using a google drawing.I created my siapo by repeating the patterns, resizing them and finally rotating them.

Here it is....

  1. Talofa lava Gloria,

I really enjoyed reading your post about siapo patterns. I think your art is great but when you said that they use trees for the colours what type of colours do they use? and what types of trees? I want to know why did you do this for Samoa langue week.
